Every professional golfer aims to get maximum victories in a season, but with the increasing count of victories, the purse also gets a massive hike with each win. This can be seen in the illustrious career of Tiger Woods, who is among the greatest golfers with a whopping net worth of $1.8 billion. However, the current leaderboard topper for 2024 in the PGA and LPGA Tour has a different story.
Scottie Scheffler is the top earner with the most wins in the PGA Tour, but despite the most wins in LPGA, Nelly Korda isn’t the top earner. Shocking right, but that is the truth. As per the list of the top 10 highest-paid female athletes for 2024 by GOLF.com, Nelly Korda is in the eighth position and is the only golfer to enter the list. However, she still couldn’t get the top spot on the LPGA earning list.
The 2024 season for Nelly Korda has been ideal and she wouldn’t deny that. With 7 victories this season, she has doubled her total career victories to 15. But why did she fail to top the list of earners? Well, the CME Group Tour Championship is the only tournament that has made a difference.
The winner of the CME, Jeeno Thitikul, earned a $4 million paycheck, which helped her to top the list of LPGA earners. With just one extra event played than Korda and fewer victories, one tournament win single-handedly snatched the title from Korda. Thitikul leads the official money list with $6,059,309, while Korda in the second spot has $4,391,930 earnings this year.
Comparing the wins of the two LPGA stars, Thitikul is far behind with just 2 victories, whereas Korda recorded 7. However, it has proven that the LPGA star’s winning isn’t guaranteeing the top spot in the earner’s list. However, in the case of the PGA Tour, it is just the opposite.
Scottie Scheffler’s winnings compared to Nelly Korda after 7 victories in 2024
The world no.1, Scottie Scheffler, also had the best season of his career, which is being compared to Tiger Woods era. He won 7 PGA Tour titles, equal to the number of Nelly Korda, but the money list shows the difference. On one hand, where Korda earned more than $4 million, Scheffler earned 7 times more. The American golfer in 2024 has topped the leaderboard with $29 million. The major contributor to Scheffler’s earnings was the Player Championship, which paid off $4.5 million.
The comparison between the PGA and LPGA Tour isn’t justifiable, but there is one thing in common which is that the better performer always tops the list. Both the 7 title winners, Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler, are world no.1 in their league. But is the difference in earnings explained? What are your thoughts on this? Should LPGA players get paid the same as the PGA Tour players? Let us know your opinion on this in the comments section below.
