Successful people always face difficulties on their route. Even those who are behind the microphone and discuss other players’ difficult journeys. Erin Andrews is one such person behind the mic who suffered a lot in her life. Everyone knows that the 46-year-old reporter was diagnosed with cervical cancer in September 2016. And she was too terrified at the moment to talk about it publicly. Now that she is cured and good, she recently talked about how she experienced one of the most humiliating moments at the doctor’s office.
Some of you may be aware that if a person has gotten cancer in their life once, then there is a high chance that it will recur. Erin Andrews had the same fear. She disclosed this on a recent episode of the podcast Calm Down with Erin and Charissa. The reporter confessed that she gets tested every six months because she is afraid of getting cancer again. And on her first six-month visit after being cured of cervical cancer, she panicked in the doctor’s office.

Erin Andrews described it as one of the worst experiences of her life. She described what happened and how she yelled at the front desk lady while weeping at the time: “And I’m just like you’re hearing more and more about breast cancer and so forth, it’s awful. I had a moment where I had to go back for a checkup, and I literally had a panic attack in the office because they were making me wait. Finally, I started crying. I told the lady at the front desk, can you please just get me in a room because I’m freaking out?”
Throughout these comments, Andrews emphasized the significance of regular checkups. She stated how life was unexpected and her diagnosis of cervical cancer during a routine visit shows it. Everyone in her family knew, and even her boyfriend at the time, Jerret Stroll (now husband), was taken aback by what had happened. But they were all incredibly supportive of her, giving him the confidence to recover from the deadly sickness.
Andrews is not the first person who has gotten a life-threatening condition unexpectedly; there have been other cases of this too. For example, Texans wide receiver John Metchie III was unexpectedly diagnosed with leukemia in 2022. While the WR is currently blessed with good health, the sickness has not left his roots.
Coming back to Erin Andrews, the reporter also talked about how she faced constraints at the time. But she never listened to any of them.

While discussing the past, Andrews confessed why she had never told anyone about the discovery. She mentioned that the industry she works in is dominated by men, and that things like this could have prevented her from achieving great success. This was another reason why she was never able to take sudden sick leave. The reporter also disclosed that physicians had asked her not to attend a Packers game once, but she did not follow through and went to work anyhow.
Andrews mentioned in an interview that she needed to seek additional views from other doctors about her disease. So she needed the time off but opted to postpone it and get the appointment later. So after that she got a couple of more opinions and was happy with the results: “[Jarret] came to my oncologist appointments with me afterwards and ended up helping me choose my oncologist,” Erin says. “The best thing I did was get three or four opinions. My oncologist was amazing. He wasn’t all about doomsday.”
And then came her recovery journey in 2017 where she underwent two surgeries to remove parts of her cervix. She was then cancer-free!
